Easy E-mail Attachments

Tell a Friend

Here's an easier way to place attachments in your e-mail messages for both Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express.

My preference is to locate the files you wish to send using Windows Explorer.  Highlight the files (hold down the  CTRL key to select more than one file).  Then, just right click on one of the files then choose Send To, then Mail Recipient.  That will launch your default e-mail application and automatically attach the files.  This methord has two really great advantages.  First, if you are sending pictures, it will automatically ask ifyou'd like to re-size the pictures for faster e-mail transmission and secondly, it will create a list of the files you are sending in the e-mail body.  If you follow one of our other tips on "How to Manage Outlook Mailbox Size", if you delete the attachments after you send the e-mail (to save room in your mailbox), you'll still have a list of which files you sent for audit purposes.

Another way, with Microsoft Outlook, you can drag & drop files from Windows Explorer to the message into which you want them attached.   Here's how:

First, open Windows Explorer or My Computer and navigate to the file you want to send (note that you won't want the window maximized). Next open your e-mail program and start a new message.

Then:

Outlook / Outlook Express:

This one is easy. Just drag the file to the body of the message and let go. You're all attached.

If you're using a different e-mail program, it *may* support this as well. You may have to experiment to find out.
