Gift Ideas For The Geek In Your Family Gifts for your geek...

Monstrous iPhone battery. There may be an app for everything except an app to run your apps longer. Or is there?

Virtual Laser Keyboard. This plugs into a number of smartphones (except iPhone) & projects a laser keyboard onto a flat surface.

Rovio, Rovio, wherefore art thou? How about a wireless robotic webcam and microphone?

Logitech Universal Remote. Program this to perform combined functions from all your remotes. One button turns on the TV, amp, DVR etc, chooses the right input & programs all the buttons to seamlessly work each component all on the one remote. Or, for dorks, there's the next remote...

Magic Wand Remote Control. Harry Potter-like button-less wand that uses flourishes to emulate button functions from a standard remote.

Handheld, pocketable projector Hook it up to laptops, game consoles & iPods. Throws up images that are up to 60"/150cm wide. Hinged design allows you project onto ceilings too.

Demotivational Calendar. Are you tired of all those insipid platitudes expressed in sappy motivational posters? This is the web site for you!

Bucky Balls Magnetic Building Spheres. Play with your magnetic balls at work... Not really hi-tech, but still cool.

Tips of the Month

1. Making Screen Shots to Put in Documents
This is a great way to include pictures of a screen (screen shots) in your documents.
If you are working with multiple windows, click the one of which you want to make an image to make that window active.
Press ALT+PRINT SCREEN to copy an image of the current window to the clipboard.
To paste the image into a document, click the Edit menu in that document, and then click Paste.
You can also take a screen shot of your entire screen by pressing PRINT SCREEN.

This tip works in Photoshop and other photo editing software as well as Excel, FrontPage, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher, Word, and many other programs which allow images to be pasted.

2. How to Change the Logon Screen on Windows 7
Microsoft has made visual customization at the OS level easier than ever to apply and adjust with Windows 7. That includes screensavers, desktop wallpapers, font type and sizes, etc. There are various methods to customize the Windows 7 login screen, with and without third-party software.

Click here to go to our tips page with more details on how to accomplish this customization.

3. Easier Ways to Highlight
Do you have problems highlighting a long passage where the mouse seems to either get a small part of the passage or goes too quickly all the way down the page? Here are a few solutions to make highlighting easier:

  • Hold the shift key down and use the arrow keys to highlight. Or even put your cursor at the beginning, hold shift down and click at the end of the passage and it will be highlighted.
  • Reduce the size of the page you're looking at to 50% so you see the whole page. (There's a percentage drop down on the toolbar at the top.) Then highlight.
  • Put your cursor at the beginning of where you want to highlight and then hit the F8 function key at the top of your keyboard. Then use the arrow keys on the keyboard to highlight the part you want.

We've moved!
Over the Thanksgiving holiday, we moved ourselves and a major client to a new facility in the American Tobacco District of downtown Durham.

We're now in the Diamond View II building at:

280 S Mangum Street, Suite 400, Durham NC 27701.

ITS new location

Our phone numbers didn't change, but we have a new "Google Number" which will simultaneously ring the main office number, Brett's cell & the workshop.
